I started my preparation by learning exactly what the TExES Core Subjects EC-6 (391) covered. The test included five subject areas: English Language Arts and Reading, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and Fine Arts, Health and Physical Education. It had 210 selected-response questions with five hours of testing time.
Instead of treating the exam as one large subject, I divided my study time across these areas. This made my preparation easier to organize and helped me see which subjects needed more attention.

Building a Study Plan for the TExES Core Subjects EC-6 (391) Test
I created a weekly study schedule and assigned specific days to different subjects. I spent more time on areas where I had difficulty and used shorter sessions for topics I already understood.
I also reviewed the official test framework and related Texas standards. The Texas Education Agency explains that Core Subjects EC-6 covers English Language Arts and Reading, mathematics, science, social studies, fine arts, health, and physical education.
Practicing Questions for the TExES Core Subjects EC-6 (391) Test
After reviewing a topic, I answered practice questions to check whether I could apply what I had learned. I did not focus only on getting answers right. I reviewed every incorrect response and identified the concept behind the mistake.
I used TExES Core Subjects Quiz Questions as a way to practice recognizing question wording, eliminating incorrect choices, and working within a limited amount of time. I also kept notes on recurring mistakes so I could review those concepts again later.
Reviewing Weak Areas Before the TExES Core Subjects EC-6 (391) Test
My final review focused mainly on weak areas rather than rereading everything. For English Language Arts and Reading, I reviewed reading and language concepts. For mathematics, I practiced problem solving and basic mathematical concepts. I also reviewed major concepts in science and social studies and refreshed my knowledge of fine arts, health, and physical education.
This approach helped me avoid spending equal time on every topic when my knowledge was not equal across all five areas.
Using Practice Tests for the TExES Core Subjects EC-6 (391) Test
I used full practice sessions to make my study routine closer to the actual testing experience. The official exam is divided into five subject exams, each with its own question count and testing time, so I practiced managing time while moving between different content areas.
My TExES Core Subjects Test Prep became more effective when I treated each practice session as a learning opportunity. I recorded the topics I missed, reviewed them, and tested myself again. I also used PracticeTestMaster once as an additional practice resource while preparing for the exam.
