I've been deep-diving into the Total War franchise lately and wanted to open up a community discussion — how would you personally list total war games ranked from best to worst?

With over 14 core releases spanning more than two decades, Creative Assembly has given us some absolute masterpieces and a few disappointing entries. Here's my general take based on research and gameplay experience:

At the very top, Rome: Total War remains the gold standard. Its political depth, tactical variety, and adventurous campaign make it nearly impossible to beat. Close behind is Empire: Total War, which despite a rocky launch, became legendary for its artillery systems and rifling squads.

Shogun II: Total War is another standout — the campaign structure is tight, intense, and incredibly well-balanced. For modding enthusiasts, Medieval II: Total War is arguably the greatest playground the series has ever offered.

On the flip side, entries like Rome II, Thrones of Britannia, and Total War Saga: Troy tend to sit at the bottom of most total war games ranked lists due to launch bugs, interface issues, or failing to live up to their predecessors.

That said, every game in the series has its own personality and loyal fanbase, so "worst" is still relative.
